General Rules

  • Geographical Restrictions this only for students of Karwar or Uttara Kannada
  • Entry fee is charged between Rs. 20 to Rs. 30
  • Once Registered, participants will be added to whatsapp group to update with Venue, time and other details
  • Age restriction for the competition is between 14 to 25 years
  • Category will be made on basis of School and College level students
  • All updates of events will be shared on “Notification” tab on Event Page of Website and Whatsapp Group.
  • Participants will be communicated through Emails or Whatsapp Group only
  • Competitions will be held between 24th April to 26th April 2023, in multiple educational institutions.
  • Participants can participate in multiple events, but only with practicability of possibility.

Drawing Competition – OFFLINE

  1. Namma Karwar shall provide A3 size 210 gsm Drawing Sheet to all the participants in the competition. Rest of the painting materials are to be arranged by the participants as per choice.
  2. Participants can use any form of painting materials such as wax crayons, oil pastels, color pencils, water or any other colors.
  3. The duration of the competition shall be 3 hours. No extra time shall be given on any grounds.
  4. The participant shall not write their name or any of identical symbols, signs other than relevant to artwork and registered number provided by organizers.
  5. Parents shall not be allowed inside the venue of the Competitions, and when competition is in progress.
  6. The participants will carry their own water bottle, drawing and painting material and cloth for cleaning etc.
  7. Colors should not be thrown on the floor or side wall while executing the work or after the completion is over.
  8. Light Refreshments shall be provided to the registered participants
  9. Prizes will be announced on the Final day of Namma Karwar Youth Fest 2023 i.e. on 29th April 2023 in Zilla Rang Mandir Auditorium, Karwar.
  10. The Exhibition of selected work shall be arranged in art gallery on the Final day of Namma Karwar Youth Fest 2023

  12. By entering this contest, the participant agrees that a picture of artworks along with a photograph of the participant will be posted on Namma Karwar platforms and for any promotions of Namma Karwar activities.

Poster Making Competition – ONLINE

  1. Each participant can submit only one poster as an entry.
  2. E-Poster Size: cm: (format W * H) 19.05cm * 33.87cm  
  3. File Size: Maximum file size is 4 Megabytes (4MB)  
  4. File Format: Save your file as a PDF for quick and easy upload
  5. All poster entries must include the aforementioned theme or a related creative quotation in English, Kannada, or Konkani etc
  6. Participant name or identifying mark must not appear on the E- Poster; however participants have to write registration  code and contact number as text. 
  7. All E-Poster should be the original work of the participant. Any participant found violating rules and regulation will be disqualified from competition.  
  8. The E-poster will be judged according to the following criteria: creativity and presentation and relevance to the theme
  9. No posters should include an image or name of government officials or popular personalities  
  10. Decision of jury will be considered final
  11. The Exhibition of selected work shall be arranged in art gallery on the Final day of Namma Karwar Youth Fest 2023

Poetry Competition – OFFLINE

  1. Poet information must pass Google API and address verification.
  2. Poetry can be written in any poetic style and on any subject.
  3. A poem in its entirety must be an original work by the person entering the contest.
    • Plagiarism is a serious offense with serious consequences.
  4. Only one poem per person, per household is allowed.
  5. All poems must be written in English, Kannada, Hindi and Konkani
  6. Contest entries must be at least 3 but cannot exceed 26 lines (including stanza breaks) and cannot exceed 55 characters per line (including spaces between words). Any submission that exceeds these limits will be automatically disqualified. The poem title does not count as a line.
  7. Do not double-space.
  8. Poem must adhere to basic rules of capitalization:
    • Do not write poems in all capital letters.
    • Do not capitalize the first letter of every word.
    • Only capitalize words that are proper (i.e. names and places).
    • The first word of each line may be capitalized if it is done consistently throughout.
  9. Do not use “texting” lingo. Properly spell out all words and numbers.
  10. Poems containing language that is vulgar, offensive, or wholly inappropriate will not be accepted.
  11. Do not include your name or any other information at the end of your poem.
  12. Contest entries are judged based on poetic technique, effectiveness, style, and creativity.
  13. Decision of jury will be considered final

  15. The best content works will be featured across Namma Karwar platforms along with the poet’s name.

Pick & Speech Competition – OFFLINE

  1. Students should speak on the picked topic for AT LEAST 4+1 minutes.
  2. Speech should be completely in English, Kannada, Hindi or Konkani
  3. During the speech no student is allowed to carry any kind of paper material or electronic gadget.
  4. The judging will be based on:- 
    • Innovation in the content of the topic.
    • Voice modulation. 
    • Pitch. 
    • Gestures and postures.
  1. The decision of the judges will be final. If a situation arises where 2 or more contestants have an equal number of points, the Tie-breaking judge will be involved in making the final decision. 
  2. Appropriateness refers to the choice of words that is related to the purpose of the speech. 
  3. The language should give a clear picture of the thoughts being expressed
  4. Correctness of the language refers to the proper usage of the grammar and correct pronunciation of the words.

  6. Disqualification / Ban from the contest in case found cheating, misbehaving or disrespecting the decorum of the programme.

Rangoli Competition – OFFLINE

  1. Theme of the competition is restricted to “Open Theme” & “Freehand”
  2. Individual participation only, participants can take help of another co-participant.
  3. The participants have to bring their own material. Only colors and flowers can be used for making rangoli
  4. The participants will be given 2 hrs for making rangoli. No extra time will be given in any case.
  5. The participant must strictly adhere to the timings.
  6. The decision of the jury shall remain final and no correspondence will be entertained.
  7. Namma Karwar reserves the right to make changes in the rules. Decision of Namma Karwar shall be final and binding to all.
  8.  Limited registrations on a first come first serve basis. 
  9. Judgment will be based on: 
    • Relevance to the theme.
    • Creativity. 
    • Details and clarity in rangoli. 
    • Overall appearance and appeal. 
    • Color combination.
  10. Disqualification / Ban from the contest in case found cheating, misbehaving or disrespecting the decorum of the programme.

Mehendi Competition – OFFLINE

  1. Mehendi Cone will be provided by the organizers
  2. Only 120 minutes will be provided to the participants. The time limit will be strictly enforced. 
  3. The decision of the judges will be final.
  4. Participants are expected to portray the mehendi design on one side of hand
  5. Stickers, pens & tattoos are not allowed
  6. Judgment will be on the basis of composition, creativity & neatness
  7. Participants can apply mehendi on their own hand or any other person’s hand.
  8. Decision of jury will be considered final

  10. Disqualification / Ban from the contest in case found cheating, misbehaving or disrespecting the decorum of the programme.

Best out of Waste – OFFLINE

  1. Team shall consist of two members only. 
  2. Participants will be given 2 hours to show their creativity and 2 minutes to talk about the same. 
  3. Waste material could be anything like tetra packs, bottles, newspapers, old utensils, jute material or any secondhand items that otherwise would be thrown away
  4. The material would be rejected if not found to be a waste product or second-hand item
  5. No ready or semi-finished model or matter would be accepted from participant in competition
  6. Participants will be judged on Creativity, Utilization of Resources, Artistic composition & design, Eco-friendly rating, Utility of the Product and Overall presentation
  7. No mobile or Internet would be allowed to be used at the time of Competition
  8.  The decision of the organizers / competition judges will be final and no communication in this regard will be entertained
  9. The Exhibition of selected work shall be arranged in art gallery on the Final day of Namma Karwar Youth Fest 2023

Essay Writing Competition – ONLINE

  1. Topic will be “My Village”
  2. The essay can be in English, Hindi, Kannada or Konkani.
  3. It can be digitally typed or handwritten.
  4. You can also send a video with audio description, less than 3 minutes.
  5. Open for all age groups
  6. “My Village” specifies any region only in Karwar/ Uttar Kannada. Wadas, Wards are also considered such as ‘Nandangadda, Bandishitta, Habbuwada etc
  7. Both hand written and word format essays will be accepted. 
  8. The essay should be the original work of the student and it should not be copied from anywhere. 
  9. The writing should not have grammatical errors as well as overlapping of contents.
  10. The evaluation will be made on the basis of content, coverage, facts, writing spirit inclined towards the topic and logical presentation with due rationale. 
  11. The decision of the Jury shall be final & binding on all the participants
  12. No plagiarism. The content will be passed through copyright testing tools to check originality.

Mobile photography Competition – ONLINE

  1. The contests are open for online submissions only, through event mail nkyfkarwar@gmail.com
  2. Photos submitted must be at least 640 pixels on the shorter side, and no more than 2000 pixels on the longer side. Images should be no larger than 2MB. Photos must be in JPEG/PNG format.
  3. Photo must be clicked using Mobile phone only
  4. Participants can submit max 3 photographs relevant to the theme and must include raw photo + edited picture while submitting the entry.
  5. Participants will be added to Whatsapp Group and topics will be released on the group an hour before.
  6. Participants will be given 6 hours to submit their entry through mail.
  7. Submissions will not be accepted once the deadline lapses.
  8. You are required to provide a unique title & description for each image submitted.
  9. All submitted photos must contain the original EXIF metadata information. However there must be no border(s), logo(s), copyright marks, identifying marks, or any other visible references and/or marks on the image.
  10.  Basic editing, including color enhancement, the use of filters, and cropping of the Photo(s) is acceptable, provided any such editing does not affect the authenticity and/or genuineness of the Photo(s).
  11. Advanced editing used to create illusions, deceptions and/or manipulations, and the adding and removing of significant elements within the frame is prohibited.
  12.  Photos that portray or otherwise include inappropriate and/or offensive content, including provocative nudity, violence, human rights and/or environmental violation, and/or any other contents deemed to be contrary to the law, religious, cultural & moral traditions and practices of India, are strictly prohibited and will be immediately discarded.
  13. A participant who submits any such photos may be permanently banned, subject to Better Photography’s discretion, from participating in any future contests.
  14. Better Photography reserves the right to call for original JPEG or RAW files with unchanged EXIF for the purpose of authentication. An image may be disregarded if this information cannot be provided.

Video-Documentary making Competition – ONLINE

  1. Topic for Documentary Making Competition shall be on Karwar-related structures, topics.
  2. The duration for the documentary must be from 1 minute – 3 minutes
  3. Video must be strictly shot in landscape mode
  4. Video must strictly contain voice-over in English/ Kannada/ Konkani or Hindi. 
  5. The documentary must be original and no watermark of any kind should be on the film.
  6. The film must be of highest quality possible
  7. Adult content of any kind will not be entertained and would lead to direct disqualification.
  8. Due credits must be given to the cast and the crew in the film though the final prize would go to the director(s)/producer(s).
  9. Films in languages other than English should carry subtitles in English. 
  10. In case of any controversy on a matter not mentioned in the above regulations, the Organizers will decide on appropriate action.

Reel – making Competition – ONLINE

  1. Topic will be announced day prior to submition
  2. Minimum duration will be 30 seconds, limiting to 60 seconds
  3. Must be short vertical
  4. Shouldn’t include any individual in frame
  5. Shouldn’t include any watermark or name/reference to creator
  6. Disqualification / Ban from the contest in case found cheating, misbehaving or disrespecting the decorum of the programme.

2 min Film making Competition – ONLINE

  1. Topic will be Promoting Social Awareness such as
    • 3.1 Economic issues.
    • 3.2 Social disorganization.
    • 3.3 Public health.
    • 3.4 Age discrimination.
    • 3.5 Social inequality.
    • 3.6 Education and public schools.
    • 3.7 Work and occupations.
    • 3.8 Environmental racism.
  2. Minimum duration shall be 3 minutes, limiting to 5 minutes
  3. Should be recorded in 1080p
  4. Should be shot in horizontal format
  5. Shouldn’t contain any element disturbing political, religious etc elements.
  6. Video must not be available or recorded earlier / shouldnt submit old video
  7. Intro slide must include “This Video is shot as submission for Short film making contest for #nkyf23”
  8. Video must not contain any watermark other then: Title of film, list of actors/team slide, location courtesy
  9. Disqualification / Ban from the contest in case found cheating, misbehaving or disrespecting the decorum of the programme.

Soap Creativity Competition – OFFLINE

  1. A team consisting of 2 members. 
  2. The participants must carve the bar of soap that must be brought beforehand. 
  3. Only Wax Knives are allowed for safety purposes. 
  4. Accessories can be used but they must not account for the majority of the product. 
  5. Judgment criteria: creativity, fineness and clarity 
  6. Duration will be 90 minutes
  7. Each team has to carve soap pieces into meaningful designs
  8. Soap Bars will be provided/ can use one of their own. The soap should be a standard size and shape, such as a rectangular bar.
  9. Carvings must be done using only hand tools, such as knives, chisels, and scrapers. Power tools are not allowed.
  10. Participants must carve their soap into a recognizable shape or design. Abstract sculptures are allowed, but should still be clearly recognizable as intentional.
  11. Participants are not allowed to add any materials to their soap carving, such as paint or other decorative elements.
  12. Judging will be based on the overall quality of the carving, including attention to detail, creativity, and technical skill.
  13. Participants must clean up their workspace and dispose of any soap shavings or debris properly.
  14. Participants must follow all safety rules and guidelines, such as wearing protective gloves or goggles when necessary.

Face Painting Competition – OFFLINE

  1. Participants should bring their own makeup and tools, such as brushes, sponges, and palettes.
  2. Each competitor must supply all of his or her own face painting supplies including paints, brushes, rinse water for brushes, water container, sponges, sponge-tipped applicators and other tools and supplies necessary to complete the task.
  3. Models will be the responsibility of the competitor
  4. Competitors may not use photos or drawings to refer to while painting. 
  5. All designs will be painted free-hand.
  6. . Competitors are encouraged to become familiar with the rules well in advance of the competition. 
  7. Failure to comply with these rules may result in point reduction or complete disqualification from the competition.
  8. Model’s hair may not be used to enhance the design. Design must not extend past the natural hairline of the model. If the model is bald, the design must stop where the natural hairline once was.
  9. Design may not extend down the neck or onto the chest, shoulders or back area of the model
  10. The hair may be clipped or pinned back from the face to fully expose the design area
  11. Judging will take place immediately following the competition
  12. Judges will not be allowed to know who the competitors are or see them at work. 
  13. Models are not allowed to tell the judges who painted their design.
  14. Any infraction or violation of the Competition Rules will be subject to possible point reduction or disqualification at the discretion of the Judges and / or Competition Director.

Sudoku – OFFLINE

  1. The player must focus on filling each row of the grid while ensuring there are no duplicate numbers. The placement order of the digits is irrelevant.
  2. After finishing the puzzles, contestants must submit the answer sheet at the committee center by themselves. The official will record your time and no further editing is allowed. 
  3. Please leave the competition area immediately after submitting the answer sheet.  
  4. Only blue pen or pencil is permitted
  5. A regular 9 x 9 grid is divided into 9 smaller blocks of 3 x 3, also known as nonets. The numbers from 1 to 9 can only occur once peradays.
  6. Please make sure that you write a clear answer (number or letter). Use an eraser or correction pen before writing a new answer. 
  7. Writing down the numbers that are candidates to each cell is allowed by Sudoku rules and even encouraged. These help the player keep track of their progress and keep their reasoning organized and clear.
  8. The competition will be held in an open area where some noise or sound may exist. In order to reduce those sounds, you may use your personal earplugs during the tournament. 
  9. Decisions or judgments made by the official committee are finalized.

Quiz Competition – OFFLINE

  • This is a team competition where in each team will have 2 members in it, single entries are not allowed
  • Participants must be in the age group of 14 – 25
  • Competitors are requested to carry smart phones for different rounds of competition.
  • Competition will be point based
  • There will be multiple rounds in the competition and the team with highest points at the end of the final round will be the winner
  • General Knowledge based question will be asked (ie. Current affairs, TV shows, History, Science etc) , questions will vary according to the rounds.
  • Disqualification / Ban from the contest in case found cheating, misbehaving or disrespecting the decorum of the programme.

Clay Modelling Competition – OFFLINE

  1. Students should bring the required material (CLAY of different colors, an A4 size cardboard base) from home
  2. Add-ons like ribbon, feathers, and sticks are allowed, but no direct wire mesh or external supports. Participants can bring wire and sticks for internal support and can lean on a wall if needed
  3. Participants may bring their own tools such as a flattening plane or knife for cutting clay.
  4. Participants should bring their own bowl for water
  5. Coloring the model in any way is not allowed. No colors permitted
  6. The competition duration is strictly 2 hours, and participants must adhere to this time limit
  7. Participants must clean the art space once they are done.

Chess Competition – OFFLINE

  • The tournament are played according to the FIDE (World Chess Federation) laws of chess for rapidplay games (https://www.fide.com/FIDE/handbook/LawsOfChess.pdf), unless specifically noted below.
  • It will be a rapid play game where each participant will get 15 minutes plus 10 seconds to make their moves
    • TOUCH MOVE
  • The touch move rule applies to all groups.
  • When castling, the king shall be touched and moved first. Players will receive a warning for the first violation of this rule. Thereafter, if the rook is touched before the king, castling is not allowed and the rook must move (if legally possible).
    • CLOCKS
  • For groups using chess clocks, the time control will be announced at the beginning of the tournament. Time controls are either 20 minutes with 5 second delay, or 25 minutes with 5 second delay.
  • For groups that are not using clocks, clocks are added if necessary, after 35 minutes of play. The clocks are then set for 10 minutes with no delay.
  • The tournament director may, at his discretion, put a clock on a game at any time if it appears that either player is stalling or using an excessive amount of time.
  • Players must make their move and press the clock with the same hand. Clocks may not be picked up or moved during the game.
    • WON GAMES
  • A game is won:
  • 1) By checkmate;
  • 2) If the opponent resigns;
  • 3) If the opponent runs out of time, provided the following conditions are met: To claim a win on time, a player must notify a tournament official and have mating material. Claiming a win on time is invalid after a checkmate or stalemate has been played, or after a player has resigned or agreed to a draw.
    • DRAWN GAMES
  • A game is drawn:
  • 1) By stalemate;
  • 2) By agreement of the players during the game;
  • 3) By three-fold repetition (see section below);
  • 4) By fifty move rule (see section below);
  • 5) If a player has insufficient mating material (lone K, only K+B, or only K+N) and the opponent runs out of time.
  • Claiming a draw in a position that “cannot be won by normal means” is not allowed with the 5 second delay time control.
    • THREE-FOLD REPETITION
  • A player may claim a draw if an identical position has appeared on the chessboard at least three times. A game score or the witness of a tournament official is required if there is a disagreement about the claim.
  • There is no penalty for an incorrect claim of three-fold repetition and a tournament official will observe the next 6 moves of the game.
  • A tournament official will declare the game a draw if they witness an identical position has appeared on the chessboard at least five times.
    • FIFTY MOVE RULE
  • A player may claim a draw if 50 moves of any player has been made without a capture and without a pawn move. A game score or the witness of a tournament official is required if there is a disagreement about the claim.
  • A tournament official who observes that a game is not making progress or is asked by a player to count for the fifty move rule, shall start counting the moves.
  • The tournament official will count the moves silently.
  • The tournament official must advise the players of the current move count if asked.
  • A tournament official shall declare the game drawn if 50 moves of any player has been made without a capture and without a pawn move.
    • OTHER RULES
  • Players are not required to write down their moves.
  • Players are responsible to be ready to play at the beginning of a round and are expected to be within a reasonable range of the playing area and pay attention for when their group is called to play.
  • Players who are not present at the start of around may have their chess clocks started.
  • If a player has any questions concerning the rules, they may raise their hand and talk to a tournament official. In case of any dispute or claim, stop the clocks and summon a tournament official. Any decision by a tournament official may be appealed, if done immediately.
  • Only the two players in a game may make claims concerning their game. For example, players may not call touch move or indicate that time has expired in someone else’s game. One exception to this rule is that tournament officials may point out illegal moves, but only when both players have at least 5 minutes remaining (Referees may not call touch move or indicate that time has expired).
  • It is forbidden to distract or annoy the opponent in any way whatsoever. This includes talking and repeatedly offering a draw.
  • Spectators (including parents and coaches) are not allowed in the playing area. Players may only leave the playing area during a game with the permission of a tournament official. Players may not speak with spectators during their game, even if they are permitted to leave the playing area. When a game is completed, the players become spectators and must leave the playing area. Spectators will remain quiet and not interfere in any game.
  • It is forbidden for players to have cell phones, or other electronic communication, computer, or media devices in the playing area (even if turned off). Spectators will have their electronic devices on silent.
  • Good sportsmanship is expected of all players and will make the event a more enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Shaking hands with your opponent before and after a game is customary.
